Here to help the community in Margate
We have opened up a new MiCommunity shop on Duke St in Margate’s Old Town, providing low-priced food and household goods for people on benefits and low incomes who may be struggling with daily costs of living.
As well as offering affordable goods, the MiCommunity team also have an outreach scheme, and will also be acting as a connecting point between the public and local advice and support services which can sometimes be daunting or hard to access. One of MiCommunity's directors, Naomi Cooper-Davies told us, ‘We sell goods at a very low costs for those who in our community who need a little help, and we tailor support according to people’s needs making it as accessible as can be.’
Key areas of support will be:
- Debt Advice (Energy/Water/Consumer)
- Benefits MOT/Benefits Appeals
- Housing Advice
- Befriending Services
- Wellbeing/Activity Groups
- Clothing/Homeware/Furniture Banks
To use the MiCommunity shop, you will need to be a member. Those who were members of Mifoodbank will be registered automatically, but if you or someone you know could benefit from MiCommunity's services, please do pop along to the shop for a chat or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or a membership form. If you can’t afford to use the shop, we can still help with emergency vouchers and parcels, so please do still come in for a chat.
The shop is subsidised by the community for the community, so all donations keep the shop stocked. If you are interested in donating or becoming a volunteer with MiCommunity, please email us on email@example.com or pop along to:
