Alistair
Alistair has been a volunteer with us since October 2020.
His role is gate steward; he greets and guides customers, taking their details and making sure they’re collecting parcels within COVID safety guidelines. He also oversees deliveries to the food bank too.
Alistair is a qualified NVQ level steward who worked at Tottenham football ground until the pandemic began. He was first doing packing for us, but we needed someone to manage the gate and he had all the right qualifications.
Alistair says he likes working at the food bank as he feels he is putting his time to something useful. He also says “I enjoy my job here because I’m not sitting at home twiddling fingers, but out helping the community who really need it and gives me a focus”.
Mig
After teaching art and ceramics at a school for young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties, Mig is spending her retirement by the sea with everything she loves on her doorstep. Most importantly to Mig, are the kind friendly people who live here in Margate.
She says; “There is a real sense of community and a wealth of worthwhile community projects.
Hats off to the amazing people that got the MIFB underway and organise the large amounts of produce needed every week. I feel very fortunate to be able to volunteer for such a cheerful hardworking team doing something so worthwhile”.
